This embossed Hayward's Military Pickle bottle is a wonderful example of late Victorian English advertising glass. Produced by Hayward Brothers, one of England's best-known makers of pickles and condiments, these bottles were sold in grocers throughout Britain and the Empire during the late 19th century. Despite its name, "Military Pickle" was a trademark of the pickle type, rather than a bottle issued to the military, making it a fascinating piece of English advertising history. In very good antique condition with only light age-related wear and no chips or cracks. The embossed name is clear and easily readable.
Measures 6.25" tall with a 2" wide diameter base. Sourced in England. c1885
