A beautiful antique French volume from the Les Maîtres de la Musique (“The Masters of Music”) series, this book is Franz Liszt by French musicologist Jean Chantavoine.

Published in Paris in 1913, this third edition explores the life, music, and work of Hungarian composer and pianist Franz Liszt. The book also includes a portrait of Liszt along with musical excerpts throughout the text.

Each book in this collection features a different cloth binding. At that time, books were sold as simple paperbacks and the owners would choose custom cloth covers for their books at local bookbinding shops. These unique covers are part of the decorative appeal of these early French volumes.

Please note the cloth cover shows fading and discoloration along the spine due to sun exposure. The interior remains in good antique condition. Roughly 240 pages total.
