A wonderfully primitive antique English bread board, salvaged from an abandoned farm and bearing the marks of generations of use. The deeply worn surface is covered in old knife cuts, with a rich darkened patina around the rim and remnants of what was once a carved border.
Faint carved lettering remains along the upper edge and may have originally spelled “BLESS,” although the inscription has been worn too heavily to identify with certainty. Its irregular edges, softened carving and extraordinary surface give this board the character of a true working piece of English kitchen history.
Please note this board is very rustic, with extensive knife marks, wear to edges, and a welled center. Measures approximately 11" in diameter.
Sourced in England. Late 19th century, circa 1870–1900.
