This classic English stoneware jar once held Dundee Orange Marmalade produced by James Keiller & Son Ltd, the Scottish company credited with popularizing commercial marmalade in the late 18th century.
By the late 1800s and early 1900s, Keiller was exporting marmalade all over the world, packaging it in durable ceramic jars like this one before glass became standard. The bold black transfer label and simple cream-colored glaze make these jars instantly recognizable to collectors of English kitchenware.
This jar dates to roughly the 1950s and is in good conditon. It does have a small mature chip along the base, crazing in the glaze throughout, and light staining on the front right side. Measures 4.5" tall.
