This stoneware jar once held concentrated beef extract produced by Compagnie Kemmerich of Antwerp, a popular European food product in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Marked “Echtes Fleisch Extract” (German for “genuine meat extract”), the jar features a bold black transfer design with the company’s distinctive bull trademark. Products like this were used to quickly prepare rich broth or soup by dissolving a small amount of the paste in hot water.

The screw top lid is intact and still screws/unscrews. There is a bit of damage to the inner rim, as shown in the photos, and also a half inch chip on the base. The jar measures approximately 5.25" tall and 3.5" in base at the diameter. Dated from 1890-1910
