This antique two-piece soap dish was made by Booths of Staffordshire, England, a respected pottery firm known for producing durable “Silicon China” in the late Victorian and early Edwardian period. Booths developed this ceramic body to be both strong and refined, making it popular for everyday household use as well as hotel and railway dining services.
Originally part of a Victorian washstand set, this piece would have been used alongside a pitcher and basin in a bedroom or washroom. The dish includes both the base bowl and the removable insert tray, designed to keep a bar of soap elevated so water could drain below—an elegant and practical feature typical of the era.
The dish is decorated with a delicate polychrome floral transfer pattern, accented by a soft blue scroll border around the rim. Pieces like this were once common in well-appointed homes and today make charming additions to a bathroom, vanity, or bedside table.
Please note a mature chip in the dish drain base and also a bit of missing paint along the drain rim edge.
Measures 5.75" in diameter and 2" tall. c 1895-1910. Sourced in England
