A beautiful antique English school prize binding from The Leys School, Cambridge, this volume contains the works of poet and humorist Charles Stuart Calverley.

The book features a handsome leather and marbled-paper binding with gilt detailing, raised spine bands, and the large gilt crest of The Leys School on the front cover.

Inside is the original school prize bookplate, recording that the book was awarded to G. A. Lupton for Latin Verse in June 1910, and signed by the school’s headmaster. This wonderful piece of provenance gives the book a direct connection to the history of the school and its original owner.

The book itself dates to 1905, the prize denotes it was given in 1910.

The binding shows expected antique wear, including rubbing and wear to the leather along the spine, corners, and edges. The interior remains intact, and the original prize plate is well preserved.
